5 Background An order is a request to supply a specified quantity of goods. It should be clearly and accurately written out and state all the terms of transaction. If a buyer is satisfied with the products, he/she will place an order with the seller. Orders should be replied promptly. A seller can accept the order or reject the order. Acceptance means the signification by the offeree of his willingness to enter into a contract with the offeror on the terms offered to him by the latter. Without an acceptance there can be no contract. Acceptance is a final unqualified expression of assent to all the terms of an offer/order.

According to our records, it has been a long time since we last had the pleasure of serving you, and we are wondering whether something has “gone wrong”. 4. I shall be glad if you will let me have 100 Lamps of each of the various sizes, suitable for streets, hospitals, schools and offices. 5. 14 Writing Skills An order, especially a first order, should most certainly be acknowledged by letter. The letter of acceptance should include the following information:

While thanking you for your order, we have to explain that supplies of raw materials are becoming more and more difficult to obtain, and we have no alternative but to decline your order. 2. Your order is booked and will be handled with great care. Please open the relevant L/C, which must reach here one month before the date of shipment. 3. In view of your urgent need of the goods and the good relationship between our two parties, we have decided to accept your order in spite of the current tight supply position, but we can do so only by putting off our supply to another customer. 4. Since your order covers so big a quantity, we are unable to meet your requirements for the moment, but we will do our utmost to secure supply for you, and whenever the position improves we will not fail to let you know. 5. Because we are already heavily burdened with outstanding orders, it is impossible for us to accept new orders for delivery within this year.

16 6. We are in receipt of your favor of the 10th May, with your order for five printing machines, which I herewith acknowledge with best thanks. 7. We have none of this particular make in stock at the moment, and, owing to the great pressure at the mills, we are afraid we cannot guarantee delivery within less than three months of receipt of orders. 8. We are sorry to say that the quantity of cotton at the market just now is very small and prices consequently have advanced, say to 10s. and 10 1/2d. per lb. It is, therefore, out of our power to execute your order. 9. I regret that I have to notify you of so many orders being cancelled at the same time. 10. We are sorry to report that our buyer does not confirm this order at your price $500; we must, therefore, ask you to cancel same.
