Target Skills: Week 1 Organization If you’re organized, you have what you need when you need it.

Step 1: Use a student planner A student planner is provided for you in your student handbook/agenda. USE IT!!! Take this to every class so that you can record assignments and due dates. Mark off completed assignments. Also use your planner to keep track of test/quiz dates, activities, and appointments. Source: Woodburn Press

Step 2: Break down assignments Break larger assignments down into smaller parts –Example: If you have an English paper due at the end of the week you could break it down like this Mon – Do Research Tues – Do Outline Wed – Write Rough Draft Thurs – Finish paper Source: Woodburn Press

Step 3: Use a 3-ring notebook/folder Organize class notes, handouts, and assignments into a 3-ring notebook or folders –Instead of stuffing papers into your backpack –Have a different folder/notebook for each class If you miss class one day, be sure to check with your teacher for the assignment and get the notes you missed from another student. Source: Woodburn Press

Make sure that you have contact information for at least one person in each class. If you’re absent, or if you have a question about an assignment, then you’ll have someone to ask. Source: Woodburn Press Step 4: Have contact info for classmates

Never stick loose or folded papers inside books, your backpack or your locker. Always put them in the correct folder or notebook (this takes just a few seconds, but could save you lots of time when you need them). Keep your locker and backpack neat, clean and organized so that you can easily locate what you need when you need it. Source: Woodburn Press Step 5: Keep your locker and backpack neat

Every night, put completed homework in the right folders, and get everything organized for the following day. If there’s something you need to remember to do in the morning, leave yourself a note so that you don’t forget it. Source: Woodburn Press Step 6: Get organized before you go to bed each night.
