3 What is Future Tense?  Form of verb that describes something which is yet to happen or take place.  In English we don’t have ONE future tense. We use several forms to talk about different ideas about the future

4 TYPES OF FUTURE TENSE…

5 FORMS OF SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE: Form: will + present tense Will I you he she it we they will ('ll) will not (won't) look

6 DIFFERENT USAGE OF ‘WILL’:  Future predictions without evidence-  Example: I think he’ll fail the exam.  Future Intention/Decision Made At The Moment Of Speaking  Examples:  Promises: I’ll pay you back tomorrow.  Offers: Shall I help u??  Suggetions: Shall we go to the cinema tonight?  Requests: Will you marry me?  Refusals: I won’t tell you anything.

7 DIFFERENT USAGE OF ‘WILL’:  Future Facts  Examples : The sun will rise at 6.30 tomorrow. Christmas day will fall on Tuesday this year.  In First Conditional Clauses  Exaamples: If I pass this exam, I’ll have a party.  Interrogative  Example: Will you travel by bus?

8 FUTURE CONTINUOUS…  Future Continuous Tense comes in 2 forms:  Sub+Will+ be + present participle Future Continuous (Progressive) with will I you he she it we they will ('ll) be will not (won't) be looking

9 FUTURE CONTINUOUS…  Sub + Am/Is/Are+ going to +be +present participle Future Continuous (Progressive) with be going to I am ('m) going to be am not ('m not) going to be looking you we they are ('re) going to be are not (aren't) going to be he she it is ('s) going to be is not (isn't) going to be

10 USES OF FUTURE CONTINUOUS…  Interrupted Action in the Future  Example: I will be watching a film at the cinema when she arrives home.  Parallel Action in the future  Example : I am going to be eating and Tom will be making food.

11 Continue…………  Atmosphere in the future o Example-I will be arriving a bit later than expected. o They will be dancing all night long!

12 Different Cases  We often use future continious together with simple present tense in same sentence. In such cases when is usually used. Example-I will be waiting for you when your train arrives.  We can use while to indicate two parallel actions that are happening at the same time. Example-I will be working hard while you will be ralaxing.

14 FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE…  It is not that much in use as the rest.  Form of it is: will + have + past participle Future Perfect Simple I you he she it we they will ('ll ) have ('ll've) won't have won't've looked

15 USES OF FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE…  Completion before a specified point in the future Examples: Before they come,we will have cleaned up the house.  Duration in the future Examples: By the next year,I will have known monica for 30 years.  Certainty about the near past Example: The train will have left by now.

16 Some Expressions  By Now  By the time  By the year  By the month Example-He will have worked here for three years by the time she left.

17 Exercise 1. In two years’ time I’ll write my novel. 2. In three years’ time I’ll be writing my novel. 3. In four years’ time I’ll have written my novel.

19 USES OF FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS…  Activities That Will Have (Not) Finished Before A Future Time  Examples: My family will have been living abroad for 5 years this September.

20 WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?? Future Perfect ContinuousFuture Perfect Simple 1. Expressing activity will be happening at a time in the future / For an action that will be continuous during a period of time. Example : If the weather remains good, we’ll have been swimming all day tomorrow. He will have been living in Thailand this time next year. The future perfect tense is quite an easy tense to understand and use. The future perfect tense talks about the past in the future. Example : I will have finished by 10 am. You will have forgotten me by then. She will not have gone to school. We will not have left. Will you have arrived? Will they have received it?

23 USES OF ‘GOING TO’ FORM…  FUTURE PREDICTIONS WITH EVIDENCE  Examples: Look at the sky. It’s going to rain.  PREMEDITATED FUTURE INTENTION/DECISION  Examples: I’m going to work for my father.

24 USES OF PRESENT SIMPLE… We use Present Simple to talk about future events that we cannot changePresent Simple  IN FUTURE FIXED EVENTS ON A TIMETABLE, CALENDAR, ETC.  Examples : The plane leaves at 5.00. The sun rises at 5.20 tomorrow.  TO REFER TO FUTURE TIME:  Examples : If I pass this exam, I’ll have a party.

25 USES OF PRESENT CONTINUOUS…  FUTURE PERSONAL PLANS  Examples: We will be having a quiz at 8 in the morning tomorrow. I will be watching TV when my aunt calls from Australia tonight. We will be taking our final examinations from December 16 to 18.

26 USES OF MIGHT/MAY…  Future possibility  Example : Take your umbrella. It may/might rain. We might take the exam tomorrow. It may take few months to finish the project.

27 CHECK YOURSELF… 1. The train (leave)_______ at 11:20. 2. Wait! I (help) _______ you. 3. As we want to get better marks in English, we ________ harder in the future.(study) 4.
