CRASH TEST EGG RACES!!! BY KEVIN, ANNA, AND KYLI

PURPOSE The reason we are doing this project is to see which car design keeps the egg from cracking the best.

Hypothesis We think that our car will keep the egg from cracking the best, because we have a lot of support around the egg, like a sponge and popsicle sticks to keep the egg safe.

Materials 1)One small sheet of bubble wrap 2)64 large popsicle sticks 3)Hot glue 4)Two skewers 5)Three rubber bands 6)Two pipe cleaners 7)One strip of duck tape 8)One hard boiled egg 9)One ramp 10)One cinder block 11)Six connect wheels

Procedure 1) Kyli, Anna, and I got glued 28 popsicle sticks together. 2) Then we got two skewers, put the wheels on and then tied pipe cleaners around the ends to make them stay. 3) Then we made a crate out of hot glue and popsicle sticks for the egg to go in. 4) Then we attached a piece of bubble wrap to the bottom. 5) We hot glued it to the popsicle stick platform. 6) Kyli hot glued a star shaped sponge and two pom-pom balls and tied them to the front. 7) Then Anna put a sponge on the inside of the crate. 8) Then we fastened a rubber band over the egg to make sure it does not fall out. 9.) We put the egg in the car and put it down the ramp, then checked to see if the egg cracked. We did this three times

Results Trial 1- Egg did crack (it fell out of the car) Trial 2- Egg did not crack Trial 3- Egg did crack (it stayed in the car)

Conclusion Our hypothesis was partly correct and mostly incorrect. It was correct because one time the egg didn’t crack. Sadly the other two trials the egg cracked the first time it cracked was because the egg flew out. The third trial the egg stayed in the car but cracked. We think it was because the car slid and turned causing the egg to hit the block. The only two things on our car that actually worked was the crate and the framing. What we would do if we could do this experiment again is put more cushioning around the crate and secure the egg down with duct tape and not use wheels and make it a sled because the wheels keep falling off and that caused the egg to crack.

Acknowledgements WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK MRS. LARSEN FOR GETTING OUR MATERIALS, KEVIN, KYLI, AND ANNA FOR BUILDING THE CAR AND WORKING HARD TO GET A GREAT GRADE.
