GETIS Geo-processing networks in a European Territorial Interoperability Study INTEROPERABILITY FINDING A GIS/EO SOLUTION Cornelia Lieber ISLinkup

What is GETIS ? GETIS is a 5 th FP Project financed by IST, Thematic Networks GETIS will be running from now until mid 2003

Partners in GETIS SICAD Geomatics GmbH SICADGermany & Co oHG PCI (UK) LimitedPCI(UK)UK Open GIS Consortium OGCEUK (Europe) Ltd GEOBASE Consultants LtdGEOBASEUK International Institute for ITCNetherlands Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences GeoSwiss AGGEOSWISSSwitzerland

Why GETIS ? The user community is often faced with  hazy and multiple search results leading to frustration and loss of time;  non-adequate data;  data redundancy;  data cementeries; The providers face a multifaceted audience,  highly specialized researchers;  industry and public services and organisations;  individual “private” users; which it is difficult to target as a market audience.

GETIS will work towards a clearer consensus on the geo-processing frame work required in Europe; work towards interoperability of the information and establish a clear competitive market platform;

GETIS will  identify the key data domains in Europe that can be shared by information communities;  introduce advanced data domain modelling techniques to the practitioner user communities;  develop use case scenarios for the new data domains;  enabled the new data domain to become standards;  provide a key building block for interoperable data;  ensure that the results are taken up by the user communities;

Current activities Establish a Europe-wide working group drawn from sources with different application and technology background, who recognize a need to improve the way we manage data resources; Interoperability standards analysis; Explotation planning; Setting up a multi-lingual web showroom;

Working Group tasks  Analyse user needs and key information requirements;  Identify existing and future data sources;  Analyse gap between data sources and user needs;  Develop new data domains covering a range of topics connected with disaster management and develop use case scenarios; Theme established: Disaster management
