2 What did the Monroe Doctrine say?
President Monroe – Isolationism What did the Monroe Doctrine say? It said that the U.S. would stay out of the affairs of European countries and Russia. BUT They (Europe & Russia) must also stay out of the affairs of North and South America (western hemisphere)

3 Spanish – American War The U.S. gained land with the defeat of Spain and became a first-class power in world politics Land Acquired Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, Hawaii
