1 12.09.13 Trashket/Whiteboard Test Review
We will review for our exam on how different environments support different variety of organisms and how biodiversity helps the sustainability of an ecosystem by using trashket. S Ecosystem B, it has the most plant and animal life. Which ecosystem has the most biodiversity? Which ecosystem has the most sustainability? What is the average number of organisms found in all three ecosystems together? Ecosystem B, it has the most biodiversity. If you add all plant and animal species and divide by the number of ecosystems (3) you get an average of 57 organisms.

2 P - Things I need to Know Different environments support different variety of organisms Biodiversity helps the sustainability of an ecosystem Effects of human activities on watersheds Characteristics of objects in our solar system that allow life to exist Microgravity Calculate and contrast situations of work and no work Illustrate geotropism Diagram flow of energy (food chain, food web, and energy pyramid)

3 A/C - Trashket Rules: One person shoots at a time from each group.
Must have the correct answer and make the basket first When the music stops you must be seated and quiet to listen to an explanation.

4 A/C - Whiteboards Rules: Use your whiteboard to answer
Music: Discuss answer with your group When the music stops you show your answer (Voice 0) Teams with correct answer get a point.

5 What is the formula to calculate work?
W = F X D

38 E – Exit Ticket Things I know Things I need to know
How I will prepare. This could be you… if you don’t take the time to study tonight! Trashket is posted on the web site… please review!

39 All you need on your desk is something to write with!
All you need on your desk is something to write with! Let’s review! Different environments support different variety of organisms Biodiversity helps the sustainability of an ecosystem Effects of human activities on watersheds Characteristics of objects in our solar system that allow life to exist Microgravity Calculate and contrast situations of work and no work Illustrate geotropism Diagram flow of energy (food chain, food web, and energy pyramid)

40 TEST – Good luck! Stay calm, remember what we’ve learned …
You’ll do great!

41 12/11/13 Succession Vocab Obj: Describe the role of ecological succession in a microhabitat.
S- Match the description with the picture. 1._______ The pond fills with vegetation; there are few areas of open water. The pond becomes a shallow marsh 2._____ over time, dead plant debris and sediments from the surrounding land slowly fill the pond as more vegetation grows 3. _____ a limited variety of plants and animals inhabit the newly created pond. 4. ______ a more diverse population of plants and animals inhabit the pond. A. B. C. D.

42 P- Read the paragraph below on the steps of ecological succession of a pond.
The pond continues to fill with sediments and eventually forms a swamp. Over time, the swamp may dry and, through ecological succession, could become a forest or grassland depending on the biome. It may take several hundreds to thousands of years for the pond to be transformed into a forest or grassland. If Ecological succession is a gradual change to an ecosystem over time. How will it affect a microhabitat like a garden?

43 A: Copy the succession vocabulary from edusmart in your journals.
C: Using your vocabulary describe how an ecosystem can change over time. E: Word wall. Write the vocabulary word and draw a picture on the front of your paper. Put the definition on the back.

44 12.12.13 Ecological Succession EDU
S- record the name of the organism and the biome it would be found in. Western hemlock Kangaroo Rat White-tailed deer Prairie dog Banana tree Lichen

45 P- Read the TEK and define the vocabulary
10) Organisms and environments. The student knows that there is a relationship between organisms and the environment. The student is expected to: (C) observe, record, and describe the role of ecological succession such as in a microhabitat of a garden with weeds.

46 A- Complete the graphic organizer
Ecological Succession- gradual change in an ecosystem Primary succession Starts with a ________________ Examples of Pioneer species are: _____________ Time frame: _________________ Ends with: __________ Secondary succession Can be influenced by : ________________ ________________ Starts with ________________ Time frame: ___________

47 C- Interactivity- record the steps in your journal
E- Quiz- Number your paper 1-10

48 SOIL 1 SOIL 2 12.13.13 Succession Reading
We will describe the role of ecological succession by completing book work and a writing prompt. Soil 2 had the most worms because the mass was g and soil 1 had a mass of g. S - Nelson collected worms from two different soils and then measured their mass instead of counting them . Which soil had the most worms according mass? SOIL 1 SOIL 2

49 P: Read pages Describe how ecosystems change? Do they change in predictable patterns? Do they change quickly? Do they increase in stability over time? How do ecosystems reach equilibrium? A C: Draw and label the process of primary succession AND Secondary Succession

50 E: Writing to learn Write a one page paper explaining how primary and secondary succession work? Make sure to give examples of each type of succession. USE pages for help.
