#16 Did You Know? Between three and four million women are battered each year. 85%–95% of all victims are female. More than 1,750,000 workdays are lost each year due to domestic violence. Each year, an estimated 3.3 million children witness their mothers or female caretakers being abused. More Facts About Domestic Violence This year, about 450,000 women will be beaten between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Battering is the single largest cause of injury to women in the United States.  Nearly 50 percent of abusive husbands batter their wives when they are pregnant, making them 4 times more likely to bear infants of low birth weight.  More than half of all homeless women are on the street because they are fleeing domestic violence.  Last year, the number of women abused by their husbands was greater than the number of women who got married.
