3 Introduction Somerset Academy Lone Mountain campus is a K-7 public charter school opening in August We are located in Northwest Las Vegas at 4491 N. Rainbow.

4 What is a Charter School?
Charter schools are unique public schools that are allowed the freedom to be more innovative while being held accountable for advancing student achievement. Because they are public schools, they are: Open to all children; Do not charge tuition; and Do not have special entrance requirements. National Alliance for Public Charter Schools

5 How Do Charter Schools Work?
Charter schools foster a partnership between parents, teachers, and students. They create an environment in which parents can be more involved, teachers are allowed to innovate, and students are provided the structure they need to learn. National Alliance for Public Charter Schools

6 Specific Examples in Working to Raise Student Achievement:
Adjusting curriculum to meet student needs. Charter school teachers have a say in the curriculum they teach and can adjust materials to meet individual students’ needs. Creating a unique school culture. Charter schools build upon the core academic subjects by creating a school culture or adopting a theme. Developing next-generation learning models. 10 About the Lone Mountain Campus
Elementary Middle School 600 Students in Grades K – 5 25 students per class with one teacher and part time Inst. Asst. Core Classes Reading Language Arts Math Science Social Studies Specials: 6-Day Rotation Spanish PE Art Music STEM 180 Students in Grades 6 & 7 30 students per class with one teacher and part time Inst. Asst. 7 period day to allow for 2 Elective Choices Required Courses: 6th GRADE (120) th GRADE (60) Math Math Reading Reading English English Science Science PE (one semester) History Technology (one semester) Electives Spanish, PE, Art, Choir, STEM (Anatomy Lab), Leadership Subject to change

School Colors School Mascot: We follow the school calendar of the Clark County School District with 180 days of instruction with 4 Professional Development Days for Teachers (dates differ from CCSD) and Data Days (3 half day student attendance) Student Hours Full Day K - 5 8:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Middle School (Grades 6 & 7) 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 AM Kindergarten 8:15 – 11:15 a.m. PM Kindergarten 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Tops: Collared Shirts (Red, White, Navy, and Hunter) Bottoms: Khaki or Navy Spirit Day: Jeans and Spirit Shirt on Fridays Uniform Provider

16 School hours, how early/late for drop off/pick up?
6-7: 7:45-2:30 Earliest drop-off is 15 minutes before start time. Latest pick-up is 15 minutes after dismissal.

17 All grade level and core teachers are NV licensed teachers.
Will all of your teachers be highly qualified NV licensed teachers in their subject area? All grade level and core teachers are NV licensed teachers.

18 Do you anticipate offering more than 1 full day Kindergarten program in the future?
Yes. We will have 2 full-day kindergarten classes and 2 half-day kindergarten classes.

19 We will have a certified librarian and a certified STEM teacher.
Will you have a school librarian and computer lab/Technology teacher? We will have a certified librarian and a certified STEM teacher. Will students be offered a foreign language as an elective? Spanish is required for all K-5 students. Spanish is offered as an elective for middle school students.

Does Somerset participate in the GATE program? What programs/modifications will be available to students who need a challenge? GATE is not at Somerset. All students receive differentiated instruction.

What extra-curricular activities do you plan on offering? Will a sports program be a part of PE or after-school programs? After-school clubs, tutoring, cheerleading To be determined, but we are looking at Lacrosse, basketball, soccer, dance
