8 EOC Scores to Letter Grades
2012 February DAC Meetings EOC Scores to Letter Grades A psychometric study linking QualityCore® results (scale scores) of multiple-choice score to student class grades was developed. 19 2012 February DAC Meetings Who is Tested? All grade 11 students, except Alternate Assessment, foreign exchange and first year EL. Any student retained in grade 11 should complete the ACT assessment again. Any grade 12 student who has not had the opportunity to take the ACT, may take the assessment. Grade 12 students who enter Kentucky public schools as seniors that have transferred from another state or from private schools may take the ACT state administration. Submit listing of these students prior to testing to Guiding Philosophy-All students should have the opportunity to take every test. Reference that if a student is in grade 10 at the beginning of the year, they are expected to graduate at the end of the school year. They should have the opportunity to take the ACT. They would need to be listed on the roster as a grade 11 student when the ACT roster is pulled. A grade 12 student who missed as an 11th grader can be added to the roster and then complete the test. ***New for 2012*** Seniors new to Kentucky public schools may take the ACT state administration in March.  Students who enter Kentucky public schools as seniors that have transferred from another state or from private schools may take the ACT state administration.  Foreign exchange students are exempt from ACT testing. Please complete the spreadsheet from the 11/28/2011 DAC Monday if your high school(s) have seniors who will be testing and return to prior to testing.  KDE:OAA:DSR: 2/3/2012

Non-college reportable scores are not included in the college/career readiness (CCR) rate, even if a student meets the benchmarks. To be college ready, a student must meet the ACT benchmarks only with ACT-approved accommodations. These students would be eligible to take the COMPASS or KYOTE to demonstrate college readiness. ACT scores from the state-administered test are used to predict growth in the accountability model. KDE:OAA:DSR: 2/3/2012

For College Admission requirements, contact the individual institution. COMPASS® is NOT a college admission test.  Kentucky colleges and universities will not use COMPASS® scores for replacement of the ACT to admit a student to their institutions. The COMPASS® computer-adaptive college placement test helps colleges evaluate incoming students' skill levels in Reading, Writing Skills (English) and Mathematics and place students in the appropriate level college course.  KDE:OAA:DSR: 2/3/2012

The COMPASS® Student Listing File was uploaded in October to the Secure Website ( in a Zip file format. Inside this Zip file are individual Excel spreadsheets for each high school in the district and a district spreadsheet (new) with all of the students in the district. The DAC may download and disseminate these files at any time. The data used to identify students is the state and ACT National Test data.  Note: The student pool was based upon State ACT rosters and seniors listed in Infinite Campus (IC). COMPASS® assessments are only available to grade 12 students through the KDE COMPASS® system. Eligible_Career_Ready (New Tab) – Students on this list have earned the components to be identified as Career Ready, but have not met the benchmarks on the ACT in English, mathematics or reading.  The students on this list are eligible for the COMPASS assessment.  School personnel and students should discuss the option of taking the COMPASS®. The complete district list file (new) provides one list of all students in the district with the same four tabs each school file contains. For districts with one high school, it contains the same names as the school file. For districts with multiple high schools, the district file contains names from each high school. To access the zip file, go to the Secure Website ( and choose Student Data Detail (Excel and PDF). Once there, look under the Other File Formats for the file with this naming convention: SD12_###(Your District Number)_Compass Student Listing_Dist Name.ZIP KDE:OAA:DSR: 2/3/2012

2012 February DAC Meetings COMPASS® Computer Adaptive Accommodations (No Special Forms) 2 Score Reports Interventions Seating Charts Computer Adaptive Testing sessions are untimed and begin with a question of medium complexity. If the student answers correctly, then a harder level question will appear. If the student answers incorrectly, an easier level question will display. This back and forth approach continues until the program determines the level of the student with 90% accuracy. Two score reports will print immediately-one for the student and one for the school. ACCOMMODATIONS: All accommodations will be according to IEP, 504 Plan or PSP. No Large Print, Braille or Special Forms All test and non-test portions may be completed with the use of projectors and readers. INTERVENTION: Prior to administration.
