SKELETAL SYSTEM Three functions of the skeletal system- 1.SUPPORT 2.PROTECTION 3.MOVEMENT Bones form the structure of the body know as the SKELETON. Bones start off as CARTLIDGE and convert into bone through the consumption of CALCIUM and other NUTRIENTS. This process is called OSSIFICATION. Bones stop growing in ADULTS after about 20 years. TYPES OF BONES There are four types of bones. Name the types of bone and one characteristic. 1. LONG Bone. 2. IRREGULAR Bone 3. FLAT Bone 4. SHORT Bone

JOINTS – there are __ synovial joints in the body. The thumb is a SADDLE joint. The SADDLE joint allows TWO movements. These movements are FINE & CONTROLLED. The neck is a PIVOT Joint. JOINTS – there are __ synovial joints in the body. The knee is a HINGE joint. What type of movement does this joint allow? FLEXION & EXTENSION When is this type of joint used in football? KICKING THE BALL GLIDING joints can be found in the spine or wrist. What movements does this joint allow? SMALL AMOUNTS OF ALL The girls spine is moving in 3 directions can you name them?
