1 Beginning of Class Procedures: Go to your locker FIRST. If you don’t have a locker, stop bringing your backpack. You can bring a backpack AFTER you get a locker. DO NOT BRING BACKPACKS IF YOU DON’T HAVE A LOCKER. Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Breakfast is over at 9:15. If you are not eating, read quietly. Join P.T.S.A. as soon as possible! HOMEROOM = SILENCE

2 Language Arts – Warm Up 08/20/15  Warm Up: You will need the following items: NOW: Interactive Notebook (I.A.N.) LATER : Scissors, glue, handout (words/phrases that appeal to the five senses).  On the lines of your paper, underneath where you glued “April Rain Song” on page 8 of your I.A.N. from yesterday, write your own 5-10 line poem using sensory language (words/phrases that appeal to the five senses).  If you finish early, resume work on your “Quick Sketch” from yesterday.  TURN IN YOUR HOMEWORK PACKET.

3 Language Arts – Work Session 08/20/15  Essential Question: How do authors use sensory language to create mood and to describe settings?  Standard: ELAGSE6L2.b – Spell correctly.  Standard: ELAGSE6L4.a – Use context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.  Standard: ELAGSE6W1.c – Use words, phrases, and clauses to clarify the relationships among claim(s) and reasons.

4 Language Arts – Work Session 08/20/15 “Oranges” by Gary Soto  Glue your copy of “Oranges” on the top of page 10 of your Interactive Notebook.  Add “Oranges” to your table of contents.  Read the poem, analyzing one line at a time.  To which of the five senses does each line appeal?  Write that sense next to each line in which it appeals.  Example: “Let the rain kiss you” Touch/Feel

5 Language Arts – Closing Session 08/20/15  “Oranges” Comprehension Questions Respond to the comprehension questions from “Oranges”. Respond to the comprehension questions from “Oranges”. Be sure to go back and review the text to verify your answer is correct. Be sure to go back and review the text to verify your answer is correct. Shhh!!! If you can answer the E.Q., SECRETLY write your answer down in your agenda under today’s date and show me in order to earn a Brain Buck.  Your homework packet is due today!!!  The paw book summaries are for extra credit.

6 E.L.T. 08/20/15  Opening Session Grab a copy of the orange “Worst Case Scenario” book from the bookshelf in the back marked “E. L. T. ”. Finish your half sheet from yesterday and submit it to the box.  Work Session Today, you have a new half sheet. Be sure to utilize the page numbers listed on your half sheet to help you find the answers.  Closing Session If you finish early, you may finish pages 103-108 in your Interactive Reader and Writer workbook or read silently. Be sure to answer all of the questions in the margins in your Interactive Reader and Writer workbook. The paw book summaries are good for extra credit !
