9 Copyright Guidelines Copyright is a federal law that protects your work or anyone else’s work from being copied, changed, or used without permission. Others have to get permission to use it. Many videos, songs, and games are copyrighted and if someone uses it without permission, it is against the law. Software is copyrighted, so you cannot copy it for your own use. Copying and posting paragraphs from research sites is also against the law if the written work is copyrighted.

10 Plagiarism What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. You cannot copy and post paragraphs from cites and call it your own. You cannot change a few words around or use synonyms when copying other people’s work.

11 Plagiarism Teachers can check to find out if you are stealing other people’s work by using certain methods. Write your own work! I will know if you have just copied it from a cite. If you do want to use a paragraph from a cite, then you need to record where you found the information. This is something we will be learning how to do this year in fourth grade.
