C O PS = ORGANIZATION 2.Your writing needs to be ORGANIZED correctly A.SENTENCES: i.Start with a CAPITAL ii.End with PUNCTUATION (period, exclamation mark, question mark) iii.Has a SUBJECT (who) and a VERB (what they did) iv.Makes SENSE B.PARAGRAPHS: i.At least 5 SENTENCES ii.Starts with a TOPIC SENTENCE iii.Contains at least 3 SUPPORTING DETAILS iv.Ends with a CONCLUSION SENTENCE

4. CO P S = PUNCTUATION 3.Remember to PUNCTUATE A.PERIODS. i.Abbreviations (Mrs.) and at the end of a NORMAL sentence B.EXCLAMATION MARKS ! ii.At the end of a sentence = EXCITED C.QUESTIONS MARKS ? iii.At the end of a sentence = QUESTION D.COMMAS, iv.Used for pauses, quotations and for LISTS E.QUOTATION MARKS “_” v.Put around words that someone SPEAKS F.APOSTROPHES _’_ vi.Used for CONTRACTIONS (don’t) and POSSESSION (Mr. Wiederhold’s class)

COP S = SPELLING 4.SPELL words correctly A.Helpful Hints i.Remember, I before E, except after C (receive) ii.When two vowels go a walkin’ the first does the talkin’ B.What if you don’t know? i.Sound the word out ii.Ask a neighbor iii.Look it up (cha-cha, dictionary) iv.Ask Mr. Wiederhold or Ms. Potter
