Arabic, as well as all other languages, it is made up of letters. Words are made up of alphabets. In Arabic these letters are called Haroof-e-Hija. There are two kinds of Haroof or alphabets in Arabic.
Haroof-e-Sahiha- Sahih means sound, these are the letters that do not drop out from the root of a word.
Haroof-e-I’llat –means weak- there are 3 of these. ا و ي
These are the letters that do not remain in the root word or they change their place. Sometimes they are completely dropped and sometimes they change the state of the word.
For example ل و ق has Haroof-e-illat. So the و got substituted with ي. Or like when we say قل , the و is completely dropped.
