3 Course Goals To learn basic principles, skills, and technologies for web authoring. To gain fluency in analyzing and producing common web-based genres. To gain fluency in analyzing and producing standards-compliant XHTML & CSS To acquire best practices of information architecture. To build a basis of expertise for fostering web authoring excellence in co-workers and clients To engage in reflective practice, laying a foundation for a career in professional writing.

7 Turning Your Projects in… To do this, you will set up a personal project page. A website where you’ll post your projects, big and small. http://www.msu.edu/~hartdav2/index.html Your MSU NetID

8 Web Space? You have access to an account provided by MSU– your AFS Space. http://www.msu.edu/~your_msunet_id To put stuff there, FTP to ftp.msu.edu and store files in the directory called public_html; Or, in a networked lab, map the drive and navigate to your public_html directoryftp.msu.edu Did that last bit of jargon confuse you? Watch the FTP video on the course page

9 Try it now… Post your project page in your AFS space. 1.Download the sample page file from the course home page 2.Rename the file index.html 3.FTP the file called index.html into your AFS space 4.Reload the course page and click on the link with your…if you did it right, your link will work now!

10 For Next Time… 1. Watch the FTP video if you have trouble posting your project page 2. Order the Stolley text & go buy a good html/css reference (right away) 3. Start working on module 1 and get as far as you can by Thursday
