1 Scheduling  Put your name and ID number on the sheet!  This is the sheet you will turn in to your 5 th period teacher or Support teacher by February 3 with your signatures at the bottom of the page!

2 English/Math/Science/Social Studies/Foreign Language  Your current teachers in these areas will be making a recommendation to you.  You should select whatever you want to take on your schedule sheet.  If your choice and the teacher’s choice don’t match, when you meet with the school counselor, this will be discussed.  If you choose to take a lower level from what the teacher recommended, the change will be made.  If you choose to take a higher level from what the teacher recommended, your parent must talk to your current teacher in the subject area and you must turn in a form with the signatures that you will get from your counselor.

3 Eligibility  1.5 GPA  Passing 5 classes worth.5 credit or 1 credit. (Don’t include PE, weightlifting, or support, or courses you are re-taking)  Take an extra class to protect your eligibility!!!! Leaving early sounds good until you are ineligible!

4 Leaving Early: Grade 11/12  Seniors-may leave 1 or 2 periods early- mark on sheet-leave AFTER 5 th OR Leave AFTER 6 th  Juniors-may leave 1 period early-mark on sheet-leave AFTER 6th

5 Study Hall  You may only have 1 study hall per semester. You don’t have to have one.  No credit for study hall  Circle “Semester Study Hall” or “Year Long Study Hall”

6 AP US HISTORY  11 th grade- if not in Soc/Psych/Econ, have your 10 th grade American Studies teacher sign the schedule sheet if they approve.  10 th grade- may take AP US HISTORY in 11 th grade with recommendation of US History teacher  9 th grade- May take AP US HISTORY with recommendation of current World History teacher.

7 Government/AP Government  ALL 11 th graders MUST take either Government or AP government  10 th graders-for AP Gov, your US History teachers needs to recommend you for it

8 Physical Education  Only regular Physical Education meets the requirement for graduation (NOT weightlifting, team sports, coaching)  If you are using the “PE Exemption” by playing 2 seasons of a sport/band/cheer, check “P.E. Exemption” on your schedule sheet. You do not have to take PE IF you participate in 2 seasons of a sport/band/cheer.  Pick an extra elective to take the place of PE.

9 Health-need.5 credit  If you failed it and never retook it, or were new to WMHS and never took it, you MUST schedule it for NEXT year. Check with your counselor if you are unsure

10 Elective Classes  Classes are described in the Course Description Guide.  Guide is located ONLINE on the WMHS website on the Guidance page.  Make sure you know what you’re signing up for. Changes in most cases are not allowed after June 1, 2016.

11 Yearbook  Pick up an application in guidance. Turn in to Ms. Lively by January.  Applicants will be selected based on essay/recommendations.  You will be notified if you have been accepted or declined.

12 Art -Pre-req’s for art classes: 2 paths -For Art Studio-MUST have at least 3 high school art classes; subject to teacher approval Art Fundamentals Digital Art Fundamentals Ceramics/ Advanced Ceramics Digital Photography Drawing 1/2 Graphic Design Painting Sculpture

13 Choir  Concert Choir-NO previous high school choir class  Symphonic Choir-at least 1 year high school choir/more difficult music  Glee-Auditions-sign up for Glee if you plan on trying out. Once try-outs have been held, you will be contacted to change your schedule if you have not been selected for Glee.

14 Band  Students in marching band must sign up for symphonic band (not color guard).  Can be in symphonic band without being in marching band.

15 Peer Collaboration-10-12  1 credit-Pass/Fail  Pick up an application in the guidance office-return to Mrs. Grezlik by Feb. 5.  Assisting a student one-on-one during a specific class by taking notes, keeping them on-task, helping during a lab, etc. Students placed in specific classes are actively working with other students.  Supporting students with special needs during physical education or work study classes  Modeling appropriate social skills for a student  Helping/supporting students who just need a little extra help in order to learn and participate in class

16 Peer Collaboration-10-12  Students should be positive role models in the school  Respectful of ALL students/staff,  Enthusiastic  Responsible  Interested in helping others  Trustworthy  Self-directed  Students are already doing it this year….

17 New/Returning Classes we hope to offer: (pending minimum enrollment)  Speech- grades 10-12  U.S. Military History- semester grades 9-12  Civil War- semester grades 9-12  Economics- grade-11-12  American Foreign Policy- 11-12  Mentorship-Taught here at WMHS-grades 11-12-pick up application in guidance office and return it to Ms. Moore in room 110.

18 New/Returning Classes we hope to offer: (pending minimum enrollment)  AP Environmental Science- 11-12-Bio/Chem or taking Chemistry  College Prep Math- grade 12-intended for high school seniors who have not been successful in traditional high school math classes and are not prepared for college-level math. An online course, it does NOT offer college credit, but it does save students a significant amount of tuition, which they would otherwise pay for developmental math courses in college. It is possible to complete up to 3 Columbus State courses (Dev 0115, Math 1050, and Math 1075 ***these courses are remedial math courses) during the school year.

19 New Classes: Year-long classes  Pre-Engineering Technologies: Grades 9-12- Teams design and test their ideas using modeling, automation, robotics, and mechanical & computer control systems, while exploring energy and the environment.  Machine Tools: grade 11-12 -Students will learn the fundamental principles and practices of cutting, drilling, and grinding using modern machine tools, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.

20 College Credit Plus- earn college credit for free while still in high school! Take classes here at WMHS! Credit from TBD:  English Composition 1/2 (11/12-Year)  US Literature 1/2-must have “C” or better in English Composition (12 th -Year)  Anatomy and Physiology I (11/12-year)  Biological Science I-must have HS Biology (11/12-year)  General Chemistry I-must have HS Chemistry (11/12-year)  Fundamentals of Music Theory (10-12-semester)  Survey of Music History (10-12-semester) Credit from COTC: College Biology (10 th -Year-long)

21 College Credit Plus-Taking classes on the college campus  Harder to do with sports/extracurricular activities  Meeting for parents/students on February 9 at 6:00 p.m. in auditorium to learn more if interested.  Must turn in the Intent to Participate form by April 1- available after Feb. 9 from Mrs. Grezlik in the guidance office.

22 Alternative Elective Choices:  Pick 2-3 “back-up” classes in case we can’t fill your first choice options that you circled on the sheet.  At the beginning of the school year, AND at the new semester, schedule changes are only made for specific reasons.  CHOOSE your courses carefully! Look at the Course Description Guide online!

23 Schedule Changes  1) ___A senior needs to make a change to meet graduation requirements.  2) ___A teacher and student request a more appropriate level of a subject for the student.  3) ___A technical error was made in the schedule.  4) ___The course has been completed in summer school.  5) ___Prolonged illness where an excessive absence makes a normal load too heavy.  6) ___To balance classes. (Example: Two study halls 1st semester and none 2nd)  7) ___An IEP plan necessitates the change.  8) ___Drop a study hall to add a class if space is available.  9) ___ Student wants removed from class with a grade of WF (Withdraw Fail)
