2. Safety Moment: Winterize Your Car
The October issue of National Oil & Lube News offered some tips from the Car Care Council on properly preparing your vehicle for the harsh conditions of winter:
Check the coolant; it should be refilled every two years in most vehicles
Change the oil every 3,000 miles; consider changing to a “winter weight” oil in cold climates
Check the battery and exhaust system
Be certain the heater and defroster work properly
Keep the gas tank at least half full, which decreases the chances of moisture freezing in the gas lines
Check the tire tread depth and tire pressure; use special tires if the weather dictates
Check your vehicle’s headlights, turn signals, brake lights, side lights, tail lights and backup lights
Replace wiper blades every six months
This ties into Chevron’s Safety Operational Tenet #2: Always operate in a safe and controlled condition.
