1 Welcome to the Healthy Schools enhancement model Session 1 – Introduction

2 Annual Review (AR) A useful tool to maintain the good work from NHSS Submitting on the website will officially maintain your Healthy School status Monitoring 10% of AR – submit anytime

3 Healthy Schools enhancement model This is the current national model which shows a ‘public health’ approach to addressing health needs of pupils in your school.

4 Why? For the health and wellbeing of children and young people – Building on strong NHSS foundations – Needs driven – data about your pupils – School focus - set own priorities and outcomes – Improving health and wellbeing leads to better achievement – Linked to Ofsted SEF, Every Child Matters agenda, Healthy Child Programme … etc – Healthier, happier children and young people

5 Get senior management on board Involve key people: – parents – governors – MAST members (school nurse) – key staff members (learning mentors, lunchtime supervisors, school sports coordinator) – extended services 1. H&Wb Development Group

6 What data are you aware of about your children and young people that could help you choose your priorities? Priorities could include: – Obesity, teenage pregnancy, emotional health and wellbeing (including bullying) – Substance misuse – NEETs, entrants into youth justice system, participation in positive activities, involvement in road traffic accidents 2. Needs Analysis
