3. Of all the reasons listed, which ones will ensure a successful marriage??? To answer that, you need to know what qualities you feel are essential to a successful marriage, and/or relationship. Activity: Write down an individual list of 5 things you feel are essential to a successful marriage.

4. S UCCESSFUL M ARRIAGE … Now, in the groups I assign, create a master list of 5 essential elements to a successful relationship. Make sure each member’s list is heard, then work together to create a list. 5. V ALUES In order to share the same values, you have to know what your values are. What are values? Values are what people believe in. They are what you stand for and created by what people believe is right and wrong. They influence behavior and actions What are some examples? Respect, Family, Honesty, Integrity, Health, Security, Accountability, Friendship, and more.

6. W HAT ARE YOUR V ALUES ? Activity: Value Shield. Your values will protect you like a coat of arms as you go through life. The stronger your core values, the stronger your shield is. Answer each question in the appropriate space… 1. What is your greatest accomplishment to date? 2. List 3 things you are good at. 3. What is one thing you would like to improve about yourself? 4. What do you like about your family? 5. How would you like to be remembered? 6. If your house was on fire, and you could only save one thing, what would it be?

7. Y OUR V ALUES … Based on your responses, what can we conclude are the values related to your individual answers? Using your “Shield”, write and rank your top 5 values. How can we relate this to marriage?
