Optical Computing  Optical computing is a computing technology in the research and theory stage. The idea would be to make a computer that relies entirely on light (photons) instead of electricity (electrons) to do computing.

 Higher performance -metallic wires reduce the transmission speed. -nothing is faster than the speed of light.  Higher parallelism -data paths can cross without interference. -increase the amount of data which is sent through bus systems and and computed in the CPU at each time. Advantages of Optical computing

 Less consumption -computers consume a lot of energy.  Less heat is released -optical computers function with the use of lasers.  Less noise -the noise factor is reduced significantly.  Reduced loss in communication -transmitted through electric wires or radio frequency.

Optical components for binary digital components Fundamental building block of modern electronics computers -transistors -Non-linear refractive index -Logic gates Controversy There are ongoing disagreements among researchers with regard to the future capabilities of optical computers

Misconceptions, challenges and prospects  Shot noise  Thermal noise  Informational theory  Nonlinear  Electromagnetic wave

Photonic Logic Light and logical gate Photonic logic is the use of photons Switching is obtained using nonlinear optical effectsnonlinear optical effects Realization of a Photonic Controlled-NOT Gate for use in Quantum Computing

Resonators  are especially useful in photonic logic, since they allow a build-up of energy from constructive interference, thus enhancingconstructive interference optical nonlinear effects. include photonic logic at a molecularmolecular level level using photoluminescent chemicals.photoluminescent
