7 Rationalisation Introduced in budget 1999-2000. Base index – second class fare - 100. Sleeper class increased from 155 to 160. AC chair car increased from 300 to 350. AC first class reduced from 1440 to 1400. No change in the fares of other classes.

8 Second Class (Mail/express) Minimum fare increased from Rs.15 to Rs.16. It is applicable up to a distance of 15 km. Other increases from Rs.1 to Rs. 6 up to a distance of 341 km, which is the average distance of travel for this class.

9 Second Class (Ordinary) Minimum fare for second class – ordinary increased from Rs.3 to Rs.4. This fare is applicable up to a distance of 10 km. The fares are lowered by re.1 to Rs.2 at certain distances due to rationalisation.

10 Season Ticket Fare Monthly season ticket holders paid for 10 to 19 single journeys as against 50 single journeys normally undertaken in a month till last year. By means of rationalisation, these tickets are fixed equivalent to fares for 15 single journeys uniformly for all distances.

11 No Changes in … First class season tickets which are continued to be charged at 4 times of the second-class ticket fares. No change in quarterly season tickets, which are charged at 2.7 times of the monthly season ticket fares. No change in the fare structure of Rajdhani,Shatabdi,parcel,luggage,NP,magazine
