2.  Elected 1828  Spoils system- gave jobs to his buddies  “kitchen cabinet”- got advice from his friends instead of officials

3.  Five Civilized Tribes: Creek, Cherokee, Chocktaw, Chicasaw and Seminole  Adopted white culture, but white people wanted land

4.  90 treaties were signed to transfer land ownership to whites  1830-1832- forced migration of many Indians

5.  Supreme Court said Cherokee could not be forced off of their land  Jackson refused to accept the decision

6.  1835- Government made a deal with a small number of Cherokee to move all off of their land

7.  In 1838, President Van Buren forced the removal of Cherokee.  General Winfield Scott  More than ¼ of Indians died on the way to Oklahoma
