Title Slide 1.Parsley 2.Bennett, Michael, Bernadette, Jamie 3.Mr. Martell 4.Science 3 rd

Introduction Slide 1.Which plant will grow better in light or dark? Our hypothesis is that the parsley in the light will grow better than the one in the dark. 2. A brief overview of this presentation is Identifying the parts of a plant, organic compounds, description of the growth of the plant, Photosynthesis and stuff involved, the method, a graph and data, observations, summary, and resources.

Background Information: About parsley Photosynthesis a series of chemical reactions used by plants to generate carbohydrates or sugar. The chemical reactions of photosynthesis occur in the chloroplast in the plant cells. roots stem leaves

Background Information: About your herb 1 1.The organic compounds help the herb survive in nature because it protects it from insects, bacteria, and fungi. Like in mint leaves, organic compounds repel ants. 2.The stem structure is stable to prevent it from being hurt or moved around by humans or animals. 3.The organic compound is an adaptation because it helps the plant survive. 1.The common uses for our herb(parsley) is for medicinal benefits and for cooking. 2.The Romans used parsley as a garnish and flavoring.

Background Information: General Plant Information 1.3 factors that can affect the growth of a plant are temperature, moisture supply, and radiant energy.

Background Information: General Plant Information 1.The function of photosynthesis is to convert radiant energy into carbohydrates or sugar. 2.What is the overall chemical reaction for photosynthesis? 3.Which plant organelle is responsible for conducting photosynthesis? 4.Xlyem is important because it transports water from the root to the leaves.

Project Design 1.We started this investigation on Jan. 11 th. We used a ruler, a plastic cup, cotton balls, soil, three seeds, water, and a schedule chart for the height and observation. 2.We started by placing the cotton balls in the bottom of the cup, then filled the cup with soil, afterwards we placed 3 seeds in the soil and placed one cup in light and one in the dark.

Other Observations 1.The light plant grew towards light because of the process Geotropism. 2.The roots of our plants grew downward into the soil in a process called Geotropism. 3.The dark plant wasn’t as stable as the light plant probably due to the lack of light meaning the dark plant was flimsy..

Conclusion 1.The dark plant was taller but wasn’t as healthy as the light plant because the dark plant didn’t receive light, which is part of the photosynthesis process to help the plant to survive. 2.Our hypothesis was the plant in the light would grow taller and be healthy at the end of this investigation. According to the results our hypothesis we were partly because right the light plant survived better but didn’t grow as tall at the parsley in the dark. 3.We could improve this investigation by putting them in their natural habitat.
