2 Technical Introduction According to Mayer's (2009) spatial contiguity principle text located closer to illustrations reduces extraneous cognitive load. This tutorial further reduces extraneous cognitive load through coherence and signaling by using almost no extraneous information and arrows acting as callouts. Essential cognitive load is enhanced through segmenting.

3 Creating Learning Environments using Facebook Pages

4 Facebook Pages Facebook Pages are great ways to create interactive collaborative learning environments. You can quickly engage your students with discussions, links to videos, and get timely student responses through surveys. Many student already know how to use Facebook which can lower the anxiety related to learning new technologies. This tutorial will help you create a Facebook Page for your classroom.

5 Log in to Facebook Go to http://facebook.comhttp://facebook.com Log In In the Search Box type: Create page Click Create New Facebook Page

6 Create a Page Click on Artist From Dropdown Select Teacher Type in a name for the page Click Get Started (The image on the left is the page that appears. Scroll down the page to get to the picture you see below.)

7 Set Your Profile Picture Click Upload an Image Click Browse Browse for the picture you want to use for your profile

8 Market Your Page From this page you can invite other Facebook friends, import email contacts or share it on your own Wall Click Continue

9 Basic Intro Click Continue Type some information about the site into this box The next page that appears Is the Basic Intro Page

10 Edit the Page Information Click Edit Info Fill in Information

11 The Page Wall The Page Wall is the Main page the students will interact with.

12 Create a Status Update Write a welcoming statement into the status update box
