2 Herbert Hoover Hoover believed the Great Depression was just a temporary decline in the economic cycle. Did not governmentally interfere with the economy but did campaign Encouraged businesses to keep wages up workers being laid off less consumption more workers being laid off

3 New Deal Goals: The Three R’s
elief: Immediate action taken to halt the economies deteriorations. Bank Holiday, Emergency Banking Act, Federal Emergency Relief Act, and Civilian Works Administration R ecovery: Temporary programs to restart the flow of consumer demand. Agricultural Adjustment Act, National Industrial Recovery Act, Home Owners Loan Corp., Works Progress Administration, and Tennessee Valley Authority R eform: Permanent programs to avoid another depression and insure citizens against economic disasters. Securities & Exchange Commision, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Social Securities Administration, National Labor Relations Act, and Soil Conservation Act

4 Hundred Days Session March 31 - Congress passes the Reforestation Relief Act, leading to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) May 18 - Congress creates the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) June 16 - Hundred Days Session ends, Congress passes the National Industrial Recovery Act, creating the Public Works Administration (PWA) and the National Recovery Administration (NRA), Congress passes the Farm Credit Act and Banking Act of 1933, leading to the FDIC June 6 - Congress passes the National Employment System Act May 12 - Congress passes the Federal Emergency Relief Act, FDR signs the Agricultural Adjustment Act March 9 - Hundred Days Session starts, Congress passes the Emergency Banking Act May 27 - Congress passes the Federal Security Act June 13 - Congress passes the Home Owners Refinancing Act
