Some believe that they had a bisexual relationship, but that is mere speculation and cannot be proven; however, some of his sonnets seem to show love that was directed toward the Earl. SHAKESPEARE joined Lord Chamberlain’s Men—an acting company supported by the Lord

9 The Lord Chamberlain's Men was a playing company that he worked at as an actor and playwright for most of his career. By 1603, it was one of the two leading companies of the city and was subsequently patronized by James I. James I then became the patron and the name changed to “The King’s Men” 1595-1603—Shakespeare wrote many of his most famous plays Midsummer Night’s Dream Romeo and Juliet Julius Caesar Henry IV

12 Elizabeth supports the arts, but not as much as James does later. She believes in the divine right of kings—God gives a monarch the right to rule Any act of rebellion is an act against God Encourages passive obedience Treason was handled seriously and swiftly During the late 1500’s the English had a positive outlook on life. The bubonic plague did affect the attitude because many people fled the cities during the summer to avoid it. The people became more pessimistic with the death of Elizabeth. Shakespeare knew how to write to these emotions, which brought him fame.
