2 You need to know How to draw two 11 x 11 grids How to read off names of squares

3 This is one 11 x 11 grid

4 Now draw two 11 by 11 grids side by side Leave 3 squares between them On the top of the first one, write “ME” On the top of the other one, write “THEM”

5 Find the top left corner square of the grid on the left Move across one square to the right Now write the number 1 in that square Then write 2 in the square next to it Carry on across writing the numbers up to 10

6 Should look like this

7 Now do the same on the second 11 x 11 grid

8 Now add the letters A – J down the left-hand side Find the top left square Move down one square Put an A in this square Now carry on down, putting B in the next square, C in the one after that, and so on

9 Should look like this:

10 Now on to the game There are five different types of ship Aircraft carrier 1 x 5 Battleship 2 x2 Cruiser 1 x 3 Sub – L-shape Destroyer 1 x2

11 Aircraft carrier 1 x 5 Up or down

12 Battleship 2x2

13 Cruiser 1 x 3 Up or down

14 Submarine L-shape – can be any of 4 ways

15 Destroyer 1 x 2 Up or down

16 The game Without letting your opponent see, put one of each ship in your grid marked “ME” Your opponent does the same You have to sink all their ships

17 The game Decide who goes first First player calls out a square - for example E6 Other player says “hit” or “miss” First player marks E6 as X or H on the “THEM” grid

18 The game Second player does as first Once a player hits all the squares of a ship, the other person must say it is “sunk” Play continues until one person sinks all other person’s ships Now enjoy!
