Abortion is defined as the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is usually called a miscarriage, or it can be purposely induced. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy.

In effect, abortion is murder. A living thing, that has a beating heart and can feel pain. It’s not a quick death either, it takes a few minutes to fully abort. There are many reasons someone may not want their baby, but surely they can put it up for adoption or foster care? Wouldn’t you feel guilty knowing you’d killed a harmless, innocent baby?

I think it’s bad because you’re killing a living thing and it won’t live. -Sarah I think it’s wrong because you’re killing God’s creations -Beth It is murder no matter how you slice it. -Grumbling Bears (Yahoo! Answers) I believe that abortion should not be legal because if someone cannot care for a child then they should of been cautious. I think every child should get a chance to live because they are not responsible for the mistakes of his/her parents! -Ana16

If a baby cannot be truly loved by it’s parents, the baby should not be born. They are too young to look after their child? They don’t have the money or time for a baby? It was an accident? Or maybe the baby is the result of abuse to the mother? Would you want to give birth to it? Whatever the reason, if a baby is unwanted but born it could suffer the struggles of neglection from parents. Parents should love and care for their children but how can they be expected to if it is alive for any of the above reasons.

This won't be popular but I think there are very valid medical reasons for having a abortion. Forget morality for a second, many pregnancies are high risk to the mother and/or the baby causing severe deformities and damage to the brain and spine causing a life not really worth living and one that would be financially crushing for a average family. Maybe if we actually had a universal healthcare system we could allow these problematic births but we will never have that in my lifetime... I would argue that abortion is a solution to our lack of compassion for covering all citizens in this nation. Maybe we should address that first before we argue the issue of abortion.

There are many views on abortion, and it’s a very discussed issue. Although it’s painful for the baby, who doesn’t deserve to die, sometimes there is need too. Say the mother had been raped, it would be hard to love the child. But, why can’t she give it up for adoption? This will be an on-going argument for years to come and people’s views will keep changing. What is your view?
