2 Description Tunturi-treeless plain Coldest, driest, and youngest biome Main seasons are Winter and Summer Noted for its permafrost, extremely low temperatures, desert-like precipitation, poor nutrients and short growing seasons.

3 Geographical Locations Northern Hemisphere Encircles the North Pole and extends South to the Coniferous Forest of the Taiga Far North of Greenland, Alaska, Canada, Europe, Russia. Covers a fifth of the world’s surface. The Tundra is divided into two types: Alpine Arctic

4 Flora and Fauna

5 Vegetation is mostly shrubs, mosses, lichens, and grasses. No trees except for these willows that grow as low carpets. Only 1700 species. Also 48 species of land animals and few insects. Great place for migratory birds.

6 Climate Average temperature in Summer is 37˚F to 60˚F. Winter temperature can drop to -94˚F. Extremely windy. There is 6-10 inches precipitation, which is desert like.

8 Environmental Concerns and Recommendations Pollution from mining and drilling of oil. Pesticides have been used. Global Warming. Poachers. Pipeline causes problems. No drilling In most cases Nature will take care of itself…If Left Alone.
