(yrs after Jesus) there were 500,000 Christians 200 A.D. there were 1 million Christians 350 A.D. there were 33 million 1.How much did Christianity grow in the first 100 years (100-200AD)? 2.How much did Christianity grow from 200-300AD? **What could explain this rapid growth of Christianity from 200-350AD?

(yrs after Jesus) there were 500,000 Christians 200 A.D. there were 1 million Christians 300AD there were 6 million Christians 350 A.D. there were 33 million Christians Possible answers: A.New, faster form of transport being used… (remember car engines only invented in late 1800’s) B.It is not longer illegal or dangerous to be a Christian, so people become more likely to become Christians. C.A ruler decides that Christianity should be the official religion of the Empire, and lots of people decide to become Christians. D.The Roman army starts getting more Christians in it, and takes Christianity to all the places it conquers and rules in. E.a new form of communication is invented which means that the Gospel message is spreading really fast eg racing pigeon mail, smoke signals.. Explain 2 reasons why Christianity started spreading and growing so fast after 300AD. **What does this tell you about how most people choose what religion to follow? Decide with your partner which reasons are the most likely for the rapid spread of Christianity 300-350AD. Argue your case!

4 Constantine was a Roman General, who wanted to be Emperor of Rome. While he was preparing for battle to conquer Rome, something strange happened. What did he see? 1.Describe what Constantine saw and did. 2.How did this mean that Christianity started spreading fast? 3.Draw the sign that Constantine saw. Call it “Chi – Rho”. Speech bubble what Constantine heard. XP (=Ch and R) are the greek first letters of the of the phrase “ Ch ristus R ex”, which means “Christ is King”.
