Instructions Make sure your flowchart is labeled with your group’s identification List of group member names, group nickname, etc. -- as long as you are identified.

Instructions Get with your group Trade your flowchart with another group Take a minute or two to learn the other group’s flowchart.

Begin Grading More points is bad. Fewer points is good.

Count 1 Point EACH… Missing Flowchart Title on every page Missing Date of every page Missing Company name on every page More than one page, but no page numbers Improper or missing off-page connectors

Check for the following: Lack of terminator symbols at top of each column (1 point) There should be six (6) different parties: – Patient, receptionist, hygienist, dentist, bank, insurance company – Count 1 point for each missing party – Count 2 point for any confusing “column” – Clarify any extra parties beyond these six

Check for the following: How did the sign-in sheet get created? Did the sign-in sheet end up somewhere, or did it just disappear? (1 point) Is the CREATION of the Billing Slip one of the process symbols? (1 point)

Check for the following: Does the document symbol repeat every time a document changes hands? (1 point for each time any document changes hands but is not repeated) Is it clear that BOTH the Billing Slip AND the folder are going from the receptionist to the hygienist? (1 point)

Check for the following: Do BOTH the Billing Slip AND the folder return to the receptionist via the patient? (1 point) Are all three copies of the billing slip shown as ending up somewhere (file or terminator?) (1 point)

Check for the following: Is the deposit slip created by a process under the receptionist’s column? (1 point) Does the deposit slip go to the bank with the cash and checks? (1 point)

Are there… Any outright errors in the information flow? Add 1, 2, or 3 points depending on how serious your group think’s the error is…

Discussion Questions Why is there a sign-in sheet? Can the sign-in sheet serve any other purpose?

Discussion Questions Why are there multiple copies of the billing slip? Why are the billing slips pre-numbered at the printer? Why does the receptionist create the billing slip at the beginning of the visit?

Discussion Questions The billing slip copies: – 1 to the patient as a receipt – 1 placed in the folder for medical records – Where should the third copy go? Is it a waste?

Discussion Questions The receptionist had lots of experience. Was it appropriate for her current job? How do YOU think the insurance companies are paying the dentist? How should the receptionist bill the patients for anything insurance doesn’t pay?

Discussion Questions Is there a way to detect if cash is disappearing from the cash drawer? How? Why did Larry mention a “duplicate” copy of the deposit slip? On Fridays the cash is left on the desk over the weekend. What is your opinion of this practice?

Discussion Questions What checks and balances would you recommend for the receptionist position as Elroy has it presently constituted? How would you change the position without adding any new employees?

Discussion Questions Elroy mentioned that banks are professional regulated enterprises, and they have auditors to catch their mistakes. Is this correct? What is your opinion about Elroy’s brother-in- law doing the taxes?

How did you do?
