1 Life of F. Scott Fitzgerald By: Melanie and Reagan, and Seb

2 Who was Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald? – He was born on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. – Famous for being a short-story writer and novelist. – His most famous novel being “The Great Gatsby.” – After a failed attempt at a second novel he made to Hollywood and became a scriptwriter. – He died of a heart attack in 1940 at the age of 44. – Scott had only completed half of his last novel before his death.

3 Fitzgerald’s Family – Second cousin three times removed on his father's side was Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to the "Star-Spangled Banner." – His mother, Mary McQuillan, was raised under an Irish Catholic family who came from a small fortune as wholesale grocers. – His father, Edward Fitzgerald, was a salesman in the early years of his life bouncing from town-to-town, but when Scott turned 12, they all returned home to Minnesota and lived off his mother’s inheritance.

4 Fitzgerald Path to Success – At the age of 13, many schools acknowledged his talent and will to write. – In 1913, after graduating from Newman school, Fitzgerald decided to stay in New Jersey and develop a writing career in Princeton University. – He wrote for Princeton’s musicals, magazines, and newspapers.

5 He went on academic probation because all his time was consumed with writing. In 1917 he dropped out of Princeton and joined the army. Where he would write a novel In 1918, he was released from the army and moved back to New Jersey with a women named Zelda. Where they would get married. And live happily ever after. In 1925, The great Gatsby was published shortly after many other stories and novels After the release of the Great Gatsby he became a heavy drinker and his wife became mentally ill.
