Parents Anonymous Jeremy, Christie and Riley

The Birds and The Bees Shakespeare manipulates the theme of parenting and childhood, to enhance the mood and setting of the play. This is evident by his constant reference to the importance of children’s innocence and dependence on their parental figures. As shown in the play, Banquo’s only child is destined to become king and that becomes Macbeth’s center of thought later on. This evidence also suggests that a persons pride could lay on the actions of ones child. As the play unfolds, Shakespeare uses children to set in place a certain mood which only the innocence of a child can carry. In times of battle, characters refer to this innocence as weak and helpless. As well, this innocence is wanted by witches for a vital ingredient…

Shakespeare shows that the decisions that a parent makes will greatly influence the outcome of their children’s lives. When Macduff left his family, his wife and son, they were both brutally murdered along with the rest of his household. However, Banquo stuck with his son and helped him achieve the greatness that was prophesied about. As in modern times, a parents actions dwell in the child's mind greatly. When abandonment occurs at this day and age, death does not happen, but instead the family suffers through life. Using children, Shakespeare also shows a very dark side to Macbeth. Upon the decision of Macduff to leave for england, Macbeth immediately orders the attack and slaughter of his whole household. Macbeth ordered the execution of many defenseless women and children at the castle, something only a true tyrant would be capable of doing purposely and with consideration.

“And take my milk for gall…” “Finger of birth-strangled babe…” “My wife and children’s ghost will haunt me still” “Oh horror! Horror! Horror!”

Run away, I pray you!” “Why in the rawness left you wife and child, those precious motives, those strong knots of love, without leave-taking?” “Wisdom? To leave his wife, to leave his babes…” “No man that’s born of woman shall ever have power upon thee.” “How tender ‘tis to love the babe that milks me…”
