3 Macbeth recognizes that Macduff is a threat and knows that he is in ENGLAND. Decides to have Macduff’s family killed…Quote: “From this moment the very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand.” said by Macbeth. Whatever he thinks of he will do without “thinking it through”.Scene 2Lady Macduff is upset about her husband leaving because he didn’t tell her-she says that he is a traitor.
4 Lady Macduff is warned that there are people coming after her but she doesn’t believe that they are because she has done nothing wrong.Macduff’s entire family is killed!Malcolm tests Macduff’s loyalty because he still doesn’t know who he can trust…He will be a worse ruler than Macbeth.He wants all the women.He wants all the money, lands and wealth.He doesn’t have any of the virtues of a king.
5 Malcolm admits that he was testing Macduff. Initially Ross doesn’t tell Macduff about his family…then he finally does…Macduff needs to use his family’s murder to fuel his anger and dispute it like a man.At the end of Act IV, they are going back to Scotland with an army of 10,000 men with Siward and Young Siward (2 Englishmen).
