Each student will create a 12 x 18” collage/drawing that displays examples of the flora and fauna of their country’s landscape. Each piece should depict a foreground, middle ground, and background. The secondary focus of the assignment is creating a strong composition after looking at examples from famous landscape photographers and painters.

 Give several examples of the flora and fauna of Saudi Arabia.

 Foreground- Objects that appear close to the front in a picture.  Middle Ground- Objects that are behind the foreground but in front of the background.  Background- Objects that are behind the middle ground. It is often from the horizon line and above. The sky is included in the background.  Atmospheric perspective- Colors are the most vibrant in the foreground and tend to neutralize or gray as they approach the background.

 ***It is always best to work from your own photographs because a good photograph takes skill, timing, and a keen eye to produce. Technically speaking, using other peoples photographs is plagiarism.***  Using your own desert photographs or Google Images for Saudi landscape photographs, find three good compositions (pictures), paste them into your DW, and write about why the composition is a good one.  Draw out a geometric thumbnail sketch in your DW for each photograph as we did during class with the projected image.

 Draw a 4 x 6 inch sketch with colored pencils for your DW. Use colors that are available in tissue paper for the project.  In your DW, practice sketching the animals and plants that will inhabit your landscape. They should be quite small drawings.

 Lightly draw out your landscape while emphasizing the foreground, middle ground, and background.  Trace the shapes onto the tissue paper and glue them in place.  After all areas have been glued down and dried, lightly draw the flora and fauna with pencil.  Ink over all of the small pencil drawings.

 Complete your assessment in your DW.  DUE: 15 December 2012
