The introduction paragraph should include a general introduction sentence, the title of the essay and the two Criticisms you plan to use. End with your thesis statement. The first body paragraph should focus on one Criticism. Be sure to highlight the Criticism, using examples from the essay that connect to the Criticism and thesis statement. Use quotes. Archetypal – Universal symbols - images, characters, motifs- that appear in diverse cultures and share a common interpretation. Feminist – Feminist interpretation focuses on relationships between genders and examines the patterns of thought, behavior, values, and power in relations between the sexes. Marxist – the basis struggle in human society is between the haves and the haves-not. Reader Response - the reader seeks meaning of the piece but also creates meaning from a personal interaction with the text. Cultural – ethnicity, religious beliefs, and social class are crucial components to the interpretation of the text. What does it mean to be part of, or not part of, the dominant group exerted power?
