2  I will hand back work on Wednesday.  I will be grading the teenage essays throughout the week. Reminder - Your final is June 13th

3  The introduction paragraph should include a general introduction sentence, the title of the essay and the two Criticisms you plan to use. End with your thesis statement.  The first body paragraph should focus on one Criticism. Be sure to highlight the Criticism, using examples from the essay that connect to the Criticism and thesis statement. Use quotes.  The second body paragraph should focus on one of the other Criticisms. Be sure to highlight the Criticism, using specific examples from the essay that connect to the Criticism and thesis statement. Use quotes.  The conclusion should restate the thesis and sum up your findings. What future prediction or general statement can you make concerning the theme of this story?

4  Through a Feminist and Reader Response lens, the analysis could be made that marriage is confining and detrimental to one’s spiritual being. For “Story of an Hour.”  Through a Feminist and Cultural lens, the author is portraying that one can survive even in the worst of conditions. For “Persepolis”

5  Archetypal – Universal symbols - images, characters, motifs- that appear in diverse cultures and share a common interpretation.  Feminist – Feminist interpretation focuses on relationships between genders and examines the patterns of thought, behavior, values, and power in relations between the sexes.  Marxist – the basis struggle in human society is between the haves and the haves-not.  Reader Response - the reader seeks meaning of the piece but also creates meaning from a personal interaction with the text.  Cultural – ethnicity, religious beliefs, and social class are crucial components to the interpretation of the text. What does it mean to be part of, or not part of, the dominant group exerted power?

6  Determine what two critical lenses you could look at this essay from.  Write one paragraph in which you analyze the story through that critical lens. Be specific and use quotes.
