What is the C.D.C? The U.S. Centers for Disease Control is on the front lines of battling bugs, combating everything from the common cold to the emergence of a new human influenza virus with pandemic potential. They provide information to the public about recent outbreaks and diseases, and teach people safety from these things as well as how to get rid of it or prevent it.

Location The Center for Disease Control and Prevention was founded in Atlanta, Georgia and that is where the biggest site is but there are many other locations all around the country.

Sources of funds for the CDC ● CDC commits to being a loyal spender of the funds entrusted to the Agency. ● The CDC gets awarded over 25,000 acquisition and assistance actions each year and obligates approximately $11 billion in federal funds.

Current Research Projects The CDC is currently working on an H1N1 outbreak which is more commonly known as influenza (the flu).

Current Research Projects Safe Routes to School Project (SRTS) Technical support and financial partnership with SRTS Partner Network helps create national efforts to develop and use SRTS programs. The SRTS aims to increase physical activity, reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and enhance neighborhood safety for children and their communities through the creation of safe bicycle and walking paths. Alliance for Biking and Walking Project Developing a data analysis and reporting system for walking and bicycle use, facilities, policies, and funding for all fifty states and larger metropolitan areas.

Methods for Distributing Treatments to the General Population The CDC is the nation's disease prevention and wellness promotion agency, protecting people's health and safety, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and improving health through strong partnerships. CDC is leading the way to bring individual healthcare and community health together to save more lives and reduce costs. This can be done by preventing heart disease, cancer, strokes, diabetes, and other leading health threats.

How the CDC Helps the People CDC's Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) has large quantities of medicine and medical supplies to protect the American public if there is a public health emergency (terrorist attack, flu outbreak, earthquake) severe enough to cause local supplies to run out. Once Federal and local authorities agree that the SNS is needed, medicines will be delivered to any state in the U.S. in time for them to be effective. Each state has plans to receive and distribute SNS medicine and medical supplies to local communities as quickly as possible.
