3. The Boston Massacre  March 5, 1770 British troops fire on a group of civilians.  Samuel Adams and Paul Revere quickly spread the news as propaganda.  The British soldiers were put on trial and found not guilty.

5. The Boston Tea Party  The Tea Act allowed the British East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists, many merchants and smugglers feared this would put them out of business.  Colonists went aboard the tea ships at night and dumped 340 chests into Boston Harbor.
