14 Reading Tier II Indicator Indicator 1.8: All junior high students will meet or exceed standards and be identified as proficient on the MEAP tests in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Reading Tier II Indicator: Increase the number of students who score at proficient or higher in Reading. S.M.A.R.T. Goal: The percentage of Davis 7 th, 8 th and 9 th grade students scoring proficient or higher in Reading will increase as measured by the school-wide expository assessment from ____% to _____%.

17 Reading Tier II Indicator 8 th Grade U.S. History Based on a variety of reading assessments, the 8 th grade teachers have identified several deficiencies in comprehension of informational text: MEAP – Generalizations, Identifying Main Ideas Explore Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Generalizations, Locating Supporting Evidence, Vocabulary School-wide Expository Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Inference, Accessing Prior Knowledge, Metacognition, Vocabulary, Cause and Effect

18 Reading Tier II Indicator 9 th Grade World History Based on a variety of reading assessments, the 9 th grade teachers have identified several deficiencies in comprehension of informational text: –MME – Generalizations, Identifying Main Ideas, Inference –Explore Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Generalizations, Locating Supporting Evidence, Vocabulary –School-wide Expository Test – Inference, Chronological Order, Cause and Effect, Identifying Main Ideas.

20 Reaching Higher By 2014, all students in the Utica Community Schools will meet or exceed proficiency standards in English language arts (reading and writing), math, science, social studies, fine arts and career and technical education, as defined by national, state and UCS standards.

23 7 th Grade Writing S.M.A.R.T. Goal Percentage of 7 th grade students who achieve a score of 4 (out of a 6 point scale) or higher on the HRW Online Expository Essay assessment will increase from __% to __% by June 2011.

30 Special Education RTI Tutorial Class - Reading and Math Tutorial Classes, at Davis, are schedule to run in tandem. This allows tutorial teachers to support students in both Math and Reading whenever necessary. The teachers have developed a progress monitoring system they have named, “HEY YAY! OH NO!” Weekly progress reports are created in Power School. All quiz, test, and missing assignments are evaluated. Weekly locker checks help to keep students organized. The new monitoring procedure has given students greater accountability for their progress, and has created a stronger student, teacher, and home connection. Intervention Consultation - we have been assigned an IC. She currently works with students who are struggling with academics and organization, but are not certified special education. Eligibility Cards - athletes receive an eligibility card weekly. They must submit their current grade and behavior in each class to remain eligible to play. Tuesday and Thursday Tutoring - administrators and teachers volunteer to help the students with their assignments and review content to ensure greater understanding.
