2 Introduction (Description) - A stroke occurs from the death of the brain cells when the brain stops receiving blood flow. A stroke is a common disease in Australia, the main three types of stokes are; Ischemic Stroke (caused by blood clots), Haemorrhagic stroke (caused by ruptured blood vessels that cause brain bleeding) and a mini stroke caused by temporary blood clot). All of these three different types of strokes are equally bad.

3 History of Strokes – Hippocrates – father of medicine recognised a stoke over 2,400 years ago – Doctors had little knowledge of anatomy and function of the brain, the cause of a stroke, or how to treat it. – In mid-1600’s Jacob Wepfer found that patients who died with apoplexy had bleeding in the brain. – He also discovered that bleeding that blockage in one of the brain blood vessels could cause apoplexy

4 Cause of a Stroke Strokes can be caused by a blocked artery or the leaking or bursting of blood vessel. Many people experience a temporary disruption of blood flow to their brain.

5 Side effects of Strokes If a stroke were to be occurred on the left side of the brain, the right side of the body would be affected.
