1 Language Arts: This is such an exciting week for us! We will continue with our theme, “All About Food and Thanksgiving.” We will extend our unit by making “Friendship Soup.” We plan to make a shopping list of items and enjoy a “Walking Field Trip” Tuesday to our neighborhood Wal-Mart (weather permitting). We will then purchase all the items on our list for our soup and check out together! This experience is sure to be the highlight of our week together as we celebrate all that we are thankful for. This will be a review week of all previously learned high frequency words and word families. This week the students will be assessed on words that begin with the same beginning sound. They will have to identify if two words have the same/different beginning sound. Math: This week, we will continue our focus on numbers to 10, the count sequence to 30, and counting to understand that the final number in the sequence refers to the total number of objects in the set (cardinality). We will continue to explore patterns, review sorting, and analyze graphs to discuss more, less, or equal to. We will continue to review the numbers and number words 0 -10. Through our daily calendar discussions, we will continue to explore patterns and counting. This week the student will be assessed on sorting and classifying objects by two attributes. Announcements: What an exciting week ahead of us… Our kindergarteners have been learning about the traditions of Thanksgiving and why we celebrate this special day. In our discussions, one of the many things your child is thankful for is their friends. We have decided to celebrate our friends together by making “Friendship Soup” this Thursday. So… our Kindergarteners will be taking our “shopping lists” of items and going on a WALKING FIELD TRIP to our neighborhood Wal-Mart this Tuesday, November 13 th, to purchase all the ingredients for our soup. **ADVENTURE FEST WAS A SUPER SUCCESS! What an exciting day Saturday! The Fun Run, games, food, confetti eggs, and pony rides were lots of fun…and sending someone to JAIL was very popular! A big THANK YOU to all who put in countless hours of preparation to make this day possible. A great time was had by all!! **HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE: This week we will be holding a Holiday Food Drive to help local families in need. If you choose to donate to this worthy cause, please send non-perishable food items to school with your child. All donations will be sent to the Samaritan Center in Mandeville. Specific food items of need include: canned beans, dry beans, green beans, canned tuna fish, sweet peas, canned vegetables, jelly, spaghetti sauce, dry pasta, rice, dry pasta mixes, and stuffing mixes. Thank you in advance for your generosity!! **I AM THANKFUL…It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here! During this time of year, I always reflect upon those things for which I am most grateful. Among my greatest blessings are your sweet and precious children. I thank you for sharing them with me each and every day. I hope you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving spent relaxing with friends and family. Dates to Remember: Nov. 13 Walking fieldtrip to Wal-Mart Nov 19-23 Thanksgiving Holidays No School Nov. 26 School Resumes Nov. 28 Picture Retakes Nov. 30 Newspaper Drive Nov. 30 Gift Shop Preview Homework: * Please read to your child daily and have them retell the story to you. Reading to your child nightly is the most effective homework you can do to foster literacy development. Remember to have your child writing regularly for a purpose by keeping a journal, writing letters, notes, email, or lists. Have your child practice personal information like recognizing their first and last name, birthday, address, phone number, and counting to 20. Time spent on homework should not exceed 15 minutes daily. Essential Questions important to our theme: - How do we get the food we eat? - Why do people and animals need food? - Why do I need to learn about food? Happy Birthday! William 11/21 November 12-16, 2012
