3  When a parallelogram is not a rectangle, you can always rearrange it to be a rectangle  The parallelogram and the rectangle below have the same area  The area of a parallelogram is the same as a rectangle with the same base and height! Remember! ParallelogramRectangle

4  To find the area of a parallelogram, multiply the base by the height To find the area… Rectangle Parallelogram h b b h A = bh

5 Calculate the area of the parallelogram below: Step 1: Identify the values of the base and height for the parallelogram b = 7 and h = 5 Step 2: Replace the values for b and h in the formula for area A = bh A = (7)(5) Step 3: Solve the equation to find the area A = bh A = (7)(5) A = 35 cm 2 Area of the parallelogram is 35 cm 2 Example 7cm 5cm
