16. 1776 Thomas Paine writes Common Sense- a book that says that the colonies should seek independence and gives reasons why. People now believe that we should seek independence.

17. 1776 Declaration of Independence Approved by 2 nd Continental Congress who were now acting as the colonial government

18. Articles of Confederation The first constitution for the United States of America. Makes the 2 nd Continental Congress our acting government and gives them power.

19. 1783 Treaty of Paris Ends the Revolutionary War
