1 McAlpine School Improvement Plan September 23, 2015

2 Shared Beliefs · Students must feel safe from bullying, supported and motivated by their teachers in order to excel as scholars. · Academic excellence will be achieved with instruction and assessment aligned with the Common Core and Essential Standards · Designing integrated lesson units and incorporating project-based learning opportunities increases rigor, relevance, and student engagement for higher levels of learning. · Daily classroom learning experiences must provide equal access to every learner as well as motivate, engage, and provoke students to think at higher levels. · Responding to every student’s performance with prompt and descriptive feedback increases their chance of success. · Healthy partnerships with parents, volunteers, and community stakeholders support our efforts in laying the foundation of good character and responsible citizenship.

3 Goals 1. Provide a duty-free lunch period for every teacher on a daily basis. 2. Provide duty-free instructional planning time for every teacher under G.S. 115C-105.27 and - 301.1, with the goal of proving an average of at least five hours of planning time per week, to the maximum extent that the safety and proper supervision of students may allow during regular student contact hours. 3. Provide a positive school climate, under CMS regulation JICK-R, by promoting a safe learning environment free of bullying and harassing behaviors.

4 Academic Goals As a result of rigorous and differentiated lessons and activities, all third through fifth grade students will meet or exceed expected growth on the North Carolina Ready Reading and Math End of Grade assessments. In addition, all Kindergarten through third grade students will demonstrate growth on the Reading TRC assessment and all Kindergarten through fifth grade students will meet or exceed their expected RIT scores on the MAP Reading and Math assessment. ●PD on text complexity to analyze texts, ensuring that texts and activities are rigorous and prepare students for grade-level proficiency and beyond ●PD on using the MAP Learning Continuum ●PD on using the Literacy Learning Continuum to provide enrichment/remediation for all students using data from common assessments ●PD on effective interventions in reading and math ●PD on workshop model in math to differentiate activities for all students

5 Academic Goals As a result of teachers utilizing research-based interventions, greater than 80% of third through fifth grade students will meet or exceed grade-level proficiency on the North Carolina Ready Reading End of Grade assessment. In addition, greater than 80% of Kindergarten through third grade students will meet or exceed grade-level proficiency as measured by the Reading TRC assessment. ●PD on text complexity to analyze texts, ensuring that texts and activities are rigorous and prepare students for grade-level proficiency and beyond ●PD on using the Literacy Learning Continuum to provide activities that close the gap for non-proficient students ●Teachers will attend Teachers College PD on Readers Workshop

6 Grading Procedures Goal 1: Maximize academic achievement in a personalized 21st-century learning environment for every child to graduate college- and career-ready.
