2 Sunday's 1 John 4 - three basic sections: 1) Vs 1-6, False verses True teachers 2) Vs 7-11, Impersonal Love 3) Vs 12-21, Perfected in Love

3 1John 4:4, "Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world".

4 1. Verse 1-6: a) The negative influence of Gnosticism who deny the Christ. The warning about false eloquent teachers. b) The false eloquent speaker of lies about the Christ and salvation, 2 Peter 2:1-3.

5 c) The Doctrine of the Hypostatic Union of Jesus Christ by means of the Virgin pregnancy and birth.

6 Rom 9:5, "And from whom is the Christ in so far as the flesh is concerned, who is God sovereign over all." 1 John 4:2; 5:6; 2 John 1:7

7 d) The importance of “testing the spirits”. 1) 1 Cor 14:40; test them with order. 2) Gal 1:4-24; test them with Bible doctrine. 3) 1 John 4:1-6; test them based on their teaching/doctrine concerning the person and First Advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. 4) Mat 7:15-20; test them by their fruits.

8 e) Principles of the future Antichrist, the world ruler of the Tribulation. f) Principles of current day antichrists, enemies of God and part of Satan's counterfeit religious system.

9 g) What it means to be an "Overcomer" (NIKAO) by means of God's Power System (GPS). h) The rewards promised to the overcomer including the various crowns. We also noted the potential for loss of rewards.

10 i) The doctrine of the Church Age Believer as the Temple of God, in Mat 26:61; John 2:19-21; 1 Cor 3:10-21; 2 Cor 6:19-20; 2 Cor 6:14-7:1; Eph 2:21-22.

11 j) The importance of separation, including a special study in regards to the Declaration of Independence. k) The differences between Cosmic Viewpoint and Divine Viewpoint. l) What it means to "be from God".

12 2. Verses 7-11: a) We are commanded to impersonally and unconditionally love one another. b) What "propitiation" means to God and us.

13 John 15:12-14, “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.”

14 3. Verses 12-21: a) "No one has seen God", a reference to His deity. b) We are perfected in love - Spiritual growth and maturity. Mat 5:8, “Happy are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

15 c) "By this", summarizing the knowledge of vs. 12-16: 1) Knowing the self-sacrificial love of God for us from eternity past, 2) Having faith in Christ as the Son of God, 3) Knowing that we are the temple of God ("abides in us"), 4) Knowing that we should also love our neighbors as Christ loved us, and 5) Knowing that God's love is fulfilled in us when we operate in the transfigured life.

16 d) We are to have confidence in God in regards to: 1) Our salvation 2) Our witnessing 3) Our Prayer life 4) Our eternal rewards

17 e) God’s love is manifested in three ways: 1) Toward us - verse 7-8. 2) In us - verse 9, 12. 3) With us - verse 17. That is "seeing God"!

18 f) Principles of courage and fear, and that fear brings about "self-induced misery" and "Divine discipline".

19 g) 1 John 4:19, "We love, because He first loved us." With a review of Rom 8:28-39, principles of Encouragement and what God has done for us.

20 h) The importance of the Virgin Birth and the Impeccability of the Lord Jesus Christ. i) The avoidance of hypocrisy in regards to our relationship with God and man.

21 Rom 12:9-10, “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor.”

22 Weeknight's Upper Room Discourse - John 13-16.

23 a) Washing the feet of the disciples vs 7-16. Bathing verses foot washing. b) An unbeliever was present and received the same teachings as the believers, - the Grace function of God towards all of mankind.

24 c) Five main principles vs. 16-20 1) Vs. 16, The servant must have Authority Orientation 2) Vs. 17, Knowledge and application of Bible Doctrine results in Happiness. 3) Vs. 18, God's Omniscience does not violate our human volition 4) Vs. 19, Bible doctrine prepares the believer for shocking behavior 5) Vs. 20, Bible doctrine is perpetuated after the death of Christ.

25 Our Lord is our true teacher, mentor and role model, and authority orientation is critical if we are going to advance in the Plan of God.

26 The Doctrine of DOULOS, the servant/slave mentality of the believer, which included the Doctrine of Spiritual Gifts.

27 The Doctrine of Ambassadorship and Sharing the Happiness of God with a review of the Beatitudes of Matthew 5, and included the principles of the three stages of suffering for blessing.

28 The Omniscience of Jesus Christ and His sovereign election / choice of the believer, which included principles of the Divine Decrees.

29 The Doctrine of Betrayal, including the 10 Problem Solving Devices of God

30 The origins of Halloween and Thanksgiving; Judas Iscariot and Satan - the Doctrine of Demon Possession - principles on evil, dark and night, as well as the non-Christian origins of our current day Christmas celebrations.

31 Monday Mornings Romans 13:6-36. Human Good verses Divine Good; the Doctrine of Scar Tissue of the soul; God's replacement of Israel as a client nation, with Gentile nations - Tree Grafting analogy.

32 Gentiles should not be arrogant towards the Jew and never enter into anti-Semitism, because God will restore Israel upon His Second Coming; Doxology, praise and glorification, of our Lord in verses 33-36.
