Scientific Method Purpose/Problem The process by which scientists ask questions and seek answers. Ask a question about something that you observe

Hypothesis Test the Experiment An educated guess If…then Procedure (step by step) Record data carefully. Multiple trials!!!

Independent Variable Dependent Variable The variable that the scientist changes What you observe happening The effect

No Music Rap Country Classical What is the independent variable? What am I changing? What is the dependent variable? What will you observe happening?

Control Group Experimental Group Part of the experiment where all variables are kept the same. Identical to the Control group except one variable is changed.

What is the control group? What is the experimental group? No Music Rap Country Classical

Constants Things that are the same in each test group.

What would the constants be? No Music Rap Country Classical

Conclusion Based on the results, what is the answer to your question?

Purpose/Problem Hypothesis Independent Variable Dependent Variable Control Group Experimental Group If I use Fabreeze, then there will be no pet odor. I will be using different brands of air fresheners. I will be observing the smell after using the air freshener. One group that has no air freshener. Each group will have the same type of pet odor. The differences between each group will be the type of air freshener I use. Which air freshener works best on pet odors?.

Purpose/Problem Hypothesis Independent Variable Dependent Variable Control Group Experimental Group Will tarter control Aqua fresh work better than other toothpastes? If you use aqua fresh, then you will not develop plaque I will test different types of toothpaste I will measure the amount of plaque, monthly. I will have one group not use tooth paste OR I will have one group use non tartar control toothpaste. I will have one group use aqua fresh, crest, Colgate and Wal-Mart brand tartar control toothpaste.

Summarize what you see in your advertisement. What is the product claiming it can do? How is your product better or different from others?

Title your experiment 1. Purpose/Problem 2. Hypothesis 3. Procedure 4. Independent Variable 5. Dependent Variable 6. Control Group 7. Experimental Group Step by Step – how will you go about testing this product Question form Remember – what “I” am changing What are you looking for to happen Use the format if…..then Answer these with complete sentences When you are done, turn your paper into the back of the room and take a Bart Simpson handout, and complete that.

No juice -B juice Number of papers stapled The juice did not work Complete for homework-due Thursday!!
