3 Schedule 7:45-8:00 – Prepare for the day, complete bellwork 8:00- Morning Announcments, Lunch Count 8:05-9:05 – Math 9:05-10:20 – Reading-Guided Reading Groups, Independent Reading, Mini-Lesson 10:20-10:55 Writing 10:55-11:10 Word Study 11:10-12:00 – Specials (Rotational Friday) 12:00-1:00 – Lunch/Recess 1:00-1:05 – Daily Planners/Take Home Folders 1:05-1:50 – Science/Social Studies 1:50-2:20 – Differentiated Math Activities 2:30 – Dismissal (busers, walkers, car riders)

6 Math Envision Math –Program aligned to Common Core Standards –Bridge lessons to Ohio Common Core for OAA –Students will become proficient problem solvers, use math flexibly, will know when and how to apply math in different situations, and will see connections between what they learn in math and the math used in everyday life! Daily Lessons Common Core Review, Problem Posed, Mini Lesson, Guided Practice, Independent Practice, Quick Check, Homework Daily No New Instruction- centers to reteach, practice, extend –Assessments for each topic as well as each quarter

9 Reading Mini-lesson –Occurs daily –Daily, brief, powerful whole group demonstrations about a specific reading concept Guided Reading –Occurs daily –Instruction catered towards individual, student needs in a small group setting. –Flexible –Sometimes have assignments to complete outside of the group Independent Reading –Occurs daily –Variety of genres - Self-selected text (Personal Interest, ability to connect with the text, ability to understand what I am reading, series, author, recommendation, newly released, research/new learning, genre

14 Writing Mini-lesson –Occurs daily –Daily, brief, powerful whole group demonstrations about a specific writing concept Writer’s Workshop –Independent Writing Occurs daily Self-selected topics (free-write) or teacher-directed topics Have own writing folder/notebook –Conferencing Meet with child one-on-one to provide the child with feedback on the aspect of writing that is being taught in the mini-lesson Writing Goals individualized to your child’s needs –Group Sharing Students share their writing with partner, table or the class Students offer feedback to other students – positive comments, suggestions for improvement and questions for the student writer

30 My Beliefs as Your Child’s Teacher I believe in your child.. Your child is listened to. Your child is cared for. Your child is very important to me. A bit of a challenge is healthy for motivation and learning. Constant frustration does not promote motivation and learning. It is okay for your child to make mistakes. Your child can be anything he/she wants to be.
