2 © 2011 Autodesk Class Summary In this class, you will learn how 2D and 3D drawing files may be arranged and optimized to improve team communication and specifically to assist in quantities measurement and estimating. The class aims to provide general tips and guidance that are not mandatory, but provide hints for the more common beneficial optimizations for standard file formats such as 2D PDF, 2D DWG TM and 2 and 3D DWFx TM.

3 © 2011 Autodesk Learning Objectives At the end of this class, you will be able to:  Describe the limitations of image files for measurement purposes  Describe the limitations of PDF files for measurement purposes  Configure your 2D drawing files to optimize their use for measurement and estimating  Issue 3D DWFx TM model files that are data rich and contain intelligence to optimize quantities extraction for estimating use

4 © 2011 Autodesk Class Contents Section 1 Introduction Overview of the Class Section 2 The Limitations of Image Files for Measurement Purposes Poor resolution, scaling inaccuracies Section 3 The Limitations of Vector PDF Files for Measurement Purposes Lack of drawing intelligence and layers Section 4 How to configure 2D CAD Files for Measurement Purposes Layers, Blocks, Polylines Section 5 How to Optimize 3D DWFx TM Files for Estimating Purposes Family naming, Project Units, Areas/Rooms, Shared Parameters
