3 Lab Write ups  What you need in your lab write ups  Table of Contents  Name, Date, Group Members, Page Numbers  Purpose  Materials  Procedure  Data  Evaluation of data  Conclusions

4 Purpose  Why are you doing this lab.  Example: To determine the graphical and mathematical relationship among ________

5 Materials/Apparatus  What did you use for the lab, if it is specific equipment state the name, manufacturer, and model.

6 Procedure  Write what steps you took to perform the lab  These are not instructions/directions but what you did for the lab. Ex. We measured a given length (30cm) using the meter stick and the measured a given angle (30 o )……

7 Data  Organized in a neat table with labels and units.  The tables should be titled ex. Different spheres while keeping string length at 30 cm and angles at 30 o.  The data should then follow this title

8 Evaluation of data  This should be where you graph your data  Original graphs  Linearized graphs

9 Conclusion and Errors  This is where you conclude about your results.  What did you find?  What equations did you find?  Compare to theory (will come from our class discussion)  Discuss possible sources of error  Human error is not a source, this can be eliminated fairly easily. If you know you made mistakes, do it again.

10 Graphing  What your graph should consist of  Title (dependent vs. independent)  Independent variable on horizontal axis  Dependent variable on vertical axis  Axis labeled (including units)  Line of best fit (including equation)  Proper scaling for axis starting at 0  Plotted on graph paper or using Graphing Software

15 8x10 Rule  Must have 8 different data points that span at least a factor of 10  Example: Starting at 10cm. Factor of ten (multiply by 10) would be 100cm (10cm x 10=100cm)  I need 8 different (evenly spaced) measurement points  10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100  Or 10, 25, 40, 55, 70, 85, 100, 115,
